The government introduced the pupil premium in April 2011 with the aim of enabling pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their full potential.
The funds were to be used to ‘narrow the gap’ between the highest and lowest achieving pupils nationally.
Funds are allocated per pupil who is eligible for free school meals.
The Sports Premium is additional funding offered to all schools and is intended to be used to help develop sporting skills and, above all, participation amongst school children.
This money comes in the form of an annual grant. We will be spending this money in a variety of ways but very little of the funding will go on PE apparatus as the whole point of the grant is to provide skills that pupils will take with them in later life as well as the opportunities to join in.
